Finish the Drawing Worksheets
My finish the drawing worksheets are no prep, making them perfect for substitute art teachers or as an early finisher activity. Your elementary and middle school students can do these using just paper and pencil, too.
Finish the picture with markers, crayons, or colored pencils for added enjoyment. There’s no reason the learning can’t continue when you’re absent! That’s why these art worksheets are great as art sub plans. But they also work well for brain breaks, indoor recess, and after the test activities.
The benefit to these picture squiggle exercises is that it will help your students stretch their creative imagination. They’ll begin to think outside the box and challenge themselves to draw new and unique things. And, their drawing skills will improve over time along with their creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
Lastly, these should be used as simple drawing exercises. And not as a graded assignment. The idea is to get kids drawing with prompts!
Drawing Exercises
Each page of this finish the drawing activity has 9 boxes with a simple doodle inside each. Students will look at the squiggle, decide what it looks like, and use their imagination to complete the drawing. The exciting part is that every student’s drawing will be finished in a unique way!
There are 10 line drawing exercises in the packet. Give each child one or two of these worksheets for art at the beginning of the school year as an easy bellringer activity.
Teachers can assign them by grade level depending on how many grades are taught. So first grade gets one finish the drawing worksheet. Second grade is assigned two worksheets. Third grade gets three drawing exercises. And so on.
Remember: less is more with printables for fast finishers. They’ll just race on to the next one.

My students are very artistic and LOVE these pages. I often let them use when taking a break. These pages allow students to be creative and take a bit of time for mindfulness. I like how many different options there are for students. This resource is great because it provides a bit of scaffolding for my students, rather than just letting them ‘draw’. Thank you!

My students enjoyed this resource. We are an arts school and this resource has been a great way for students to express creativity when they have down time after finishing their assigned work. They are always eager to grab one of these and to share what they created. The things they come up with are inspiring.

Since my students were finishing a drawing project at different times, I had some of these “finish the picture” worksheets available for when they were done. The students loved the idea and found finishing the drawings to be very engaging; it also encouraged wonderful dialogue. Some of them even raced to complete their project so that they could try a worksheet. Great idea and very easy. Thank you

My students have loved completing these sheets! I have a very creative group this year, and these have been the perfect way to help fill in during inside recess or as a warm up for our art classes!

Fantastic! As a new teacher to my building, and new to my assigned subject area (The Arts), this was wonderful for me to get to know my students a little in our first week together, and it was so easy to use that all of my students (Grades 1-6) enojyed the freedom that it gave them. Thank you!

My students loved showing off their creativity by drawing whatever visual came to their mind just from looking at a simple line. It was amazing to see the different drawings students created. The students took a gallery walk around the classroom and shared glows about their classmates work!
