Snowflake Coloring Craft
My build a snowflake coloring craft and writing prompts are the perfect, no prep winter activity for elementary. 3 templates ensure that every snowflake activity on your January bulletin board is unique! Post your snowflake crafts and prompts in the hallway to make an engaging winter display.
If you’re racing to figure out what winter projects to quickly put up in the hallway for January, look no further. Students can complete the large snowflake craft in one class period. And you can use the accompanying journal prompts to post alongside your projects.
Basically, each child receives a copy of the snowflake template. Then, they color everything, cut out the parts, and glue it together. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy!
This easy snowflake craftivity also comes with a PowerPoint with step-by-step pictures and simply written directions for young children. Use it for either whole group or small group instruction. Or, assign it to students via Google Classroom, Canvas, etc. so they can work independently. It’s great for teaching radial symmetry in art class, too!
Are you going to be absent and your substitute won’t have access to technology? No problem! Use the 1-page all-in-one step-by-step picture directions. Just print it out and include it with your sub plans. And then do nothing. Yes, nothing, because I’ve done it all for you!
You Will Receive
- 1 Non-Editable PDF Printables – Includes a teacher guide, a step-by-step handout for substitute teachers, snowflake templates, writing prompts, and blank writing paper pages.
- 1 Non-Editable PowerPoint Slideshow – Includes large, step-by-step picture directions and text so students independently and you can reclaim valuable class time to work with needy students.
- Google Drive Access Link, so you can assign a paperless version

To get my class started on a biography unit we started by studying someone that has made a contribution in science this year. This year we did Wilson Bentley. My class did research then created their own snowflakes and wrote about them in a descriptive paragraph on how their snowflakes and how they were different and special, My students were fascinated the materials. Thank you!

This may be one of the best crafts I have ever purchased on TpT. We are expecting snow soon, so we read a book about snow and then students created this craft. The photo directions were super helpful. I loaded the Easel directions onto my Smartboard so kids could see every single step. Thanks so much! I’d love more products like this one!

It canÕt be understated, but this project ROCKS. I did it with my kids right before the break. Despite there being 3 templates, each one turned out as unique as a snowflake because each kid colored and glued the pieces on differently. It really allowed for a range of designs. I taped them up on my windows. IÕm actually excited to go back in January to see them. Thanks!
Kathy Q. –
SO PRETTY! I wound up attaching yarn one end and hanging them from the ceiling. They really added an atmosphere to my room. Like a winter wonderland! I hope to have more time next year to complete the writing prompts.
