Echo Drawing Worksheets
Looking for echo drawing warm up worksheets and exercises for your elementary and middle school art classes? Build confidence and develop good observational skills by learning how to warm up before drawing.
The benefit to this echo drawing activity is that it trains the brain to carefully observe what it sees. By copying the drawing, your students will begin to see the relationship between the lines and shapes. And, with lots of practice, theirdrawing skills will improve.
I have done these activities primarily with indelible materials like crayons, colored pencils, and thin markers. The reason for this is that I don’t want kids to be concerned about making mistakes. These should be used as simple drawing exercises. And not as a graded assignment. Also, it forces students to slow down their drawing and concentrate.
Echo Drawing Exercise Worksheets for Elementary & Middle School
There are 22 printable worksheets for art class included. The first two pages of drawing exercises are for beginners. They’re just simple line and shape designs. These make great bellringers, brain breaks, and fast finishers for kids.
Then, there’s a mix of intermediate and advanced pages. These worksheets are more involved. And because of this, you may consider only assigning one of these at the start of a lesson as a bellringer activity.
Lastly, I’ve also included 3 blank art worksheets. Use this to make your own version of an echo worksheet for your art classes.
Another idea is to let students fill it out over the course of several classes. Then, you can make copies of it, print it as a packet, and share it with all your art classes. The exciting part is that every student’s drawings will be unique. And, you’ll quickly have more echo drawings to share with other classes.
Student Directions
Train your brain! Get your hands and eyes to work together. This will help you notice small details and become a better observer. Don’t worry about copying the image exactly. The goal is to draw the same basic lines and shapes how you see them.

Solid resource to use as a warm up, time filler or mindful focus!
Your activities fill the art room with creativity, enjoyment & fun! Thank you for creating these for students to enjoy.
I use these for my bell ringer daily warm ups. They really help the kids focus at the start of class and collecting the whole paper at the end of a few classes makes it easy to grade their work. This set is my favorite because the drawings range from “easy” to more challenging”
This activity reminded me of something I would have loved doing in my childhood. Watching my students creativity at work was/is such a pleasure to watch. I love how each child can look at a squiggle drawing and “imagine” and draw such different ideas from one another. I love this resource!
My daughter and I love this. It is a great way to relax and still work your brain at the same time. I will definitely be getting more of these.
