Digital Henri Matisse Collage Project
Digital art lessons, such as my Henri Matisse cut-outs project on Google Slides™, make engaging, early finisher art activities for elementary! Students will copy and paste organic shapes to design their digital collage using step by step directions. The editable artist biography discusses Henri Matisse’s paper cut-outs.
With 166 moveable pieces to choose from, each student’s digital art project will be unique! The best part? It requires no prep! Simply assign it with Google Classroom™.
Overview of My Digital Henri Matisse Art Project
First, students can read the artist’s biography. The text is fully editable, so you can customize it. It chronicles Henri Matisse’s early painting inspirations which eventually led him to create bold, bright paintings of dancing figures, portraits, and still-lifes. And, eventually, his characteristic cut paper collages.
Next, kids will add background pieces, organic shapes, and dancing figures to design their collages.
Lastly, once they’ve arranged their digital cut-outs, your students can re-color any of the pieces! Simply tap to select a shape. And click on the paint bucket tool to change the color.

Why You’ll Love It
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is an incredible resource! There is really no right or wrong way for students to create their own artwork. It helped more of the reluctant artists believe that they too could create an interesting piece of artwork! I absolutely love this concept.

I loved having this resource to teach about Henri Matisse. It was fun for the kids and they really enjoyed it. I liked the finished projects so much that I made a bulletin board at the end of the year and again to begin the year. The kids definitely learned about Henri Matisse and his style of art.

During distance learning, it was hard finding learning experiences that would not only engage my students but would enhance their learning! This was a fun resource to help during our Ancient African Civilizations unit, that allowed students express themselves and to connect with the some of the history we were learning!

A great resource for Art when looking at different artistic styles such as this one (Matisse). It was easy to use online. However, the font is small on the reading part. It was easy to fix this by using the zoom/magnify tool in google docs.
