Cupcake Art Project
Need a no prep, If You Give a Cat a Cupcake project for elementary art that’ll dazzle your admins? Imagine these painted birthday cupcakes alongside a writing prompt on display. The step by step drawing guide, PowerPoint, cupcake template, and video demonstration makes perfect emergency art sub plans.
That’s right. Sit back while I teach your students how to play the roll a dice game and design this cupcake art activity myself! Kids can also choose patterns using the ‘you pick’ worksheet or digital spinners—whatever works best for you!
Plus, it’ll help cash-strapped teachers like you plan birthday and graduation activities using only markers. Yes, you can watercolor paint with markers! Incorporating creative art activities like this cupcake project helps. Finally keep all kids engaged.
What’s Included

- Cupcake template which kids can draw directly on it or transfer it to heavy drawing paper
- Drawing practice worksheet, so kids can practice drawing patterns

We love this cupcake activity in my class. We use it every time it’s someone’s birthday via our zoom lessons. The student create the cupcake and write a note on it, then submit a picture of it to our class story on class dojo. It’s a sweet way to celebrate a student’s birthday!

I think I read somewhere about this activity or another cupcake activity being combined with the “If you give a cat a cupcake” book by Lara Numeroff. I’ve always loved those books and I think it’s a great idea! A suggestion but not really necessary….maybe have a few different options for the icing outline. This icing is more flat/dome shape, so maybe have another that’s more layered and possibly comes to a peak.
