Andy Warhol Christmas Ornament Art Project
Need an engaging Andy Warhol art project for elementary art painting Christmas ornament designs? This lesson is inspired by Pop artist Andy Warhol’s 1950s Christmas cards and blotted line drawings. Ready-to-go PowerPoints, drawing guides, and a full lesson plan makes teaching in December easier!
You’ll start by introducing students to who Andy Warhol was and how he created his Christmas cards.
Choose between using the artist biography handout or the PowerPoint about his life and work to share kid-friendly facts. A separate blotted line technique handout with illustrations helps illustrate each part of his process.
Next, your class will use brush pens and watercolors to recreate Warhol’s blotted line technique with a set of vintage-style Christmas ornament templates. They’ll plan patterns, transfer blotted lines, then add bright colors and metallic doodles that echo his festive holiday card designs.
It’s a calming, Christmas-focused Andy Warhol art project that feels magical when kids open the “book” and see the print transfer for the first time.
