I Can Statement Template (Editable Soda Cans)
If you’re like me, you need your art room posters to be visually captivating and cool (like the other side of the pillow). Especially if they’re also going to be seen by middle school kids. So then why are all “I can” statement templates pretty much the same standard fare? I don’t know about you, but I can’t stare at a boring bulletin board display all day long.
Enter my “I Can” Statement Template of 15 editable soda cans. Add your own standards, learning goals, and objectives. Whether you teach K – 5 or, dare I say, Pre-K to 12th grade (gulp!), you have enough soda cans to customize all your learning targets. All the editing is done in PowerPoint.
How to Use the I Can Statement Template
It’s all fairly straightforward.
- Edit the soda cans (in PowerPoint) to include your learning target and standard(s).
- Edit the labels by copying and pasting the label names (For example, “Pre-K,” “8th,” or “Math” onto the circles.
- Then, print and cut out everything. You can either cut around the can or don’t cut at all. Either way looks fine!
So, while I provide you with 15 different color options (including black and white), you’ll have enough “I can” statement templates to customize your art room bulletin board the way you want.
If you only teach elementary art, the standard primary and secondary colors work perfectly. But for those teaching 9 or more grade levels, adding in more soda cans will be needed.
Additionally, you’ll have your choice between full page or half page templates. So whether you have a bulletin board that’s a mile long or nowhere near that, you can craft the best looking display of your NAEA, Common Core, or district standards
Once you’ve made copies of them, it’s your choice if you want to laminate them or not. Some teachers like to laminate so they can use the same “I can” statement year after year. Others prefer to slide them into page protectors that are affixed to their bulletin board. Do what works for you, friends.
And because I know some people will ask, I’ve made this workable for general ed teachers, too. There are labels for many of your basic classes like ELA, math, science, social studies, and various “specials.”
