Elements of Art Vocabulary Game
Review the elements of art with my art vocabulary game for elementary students. This lesson includes 5 art worksheets, giving you the greatest flexibility to incorporate the elements of art vocabulary terms into your instruction. Use it as a no prep bellringer, fast finisher activity, or art sub plans!
For older grades, I use these elements of art fortune tellers as warm-ups at the beginning of the school year as well as a review at the end of the year.
For the younger grades, I have students define each art vocabulary word as I introduce them. This builds on the review game until all the elements of art are covered. And then we play it!
Each game type includes a color as well as a black-and-white version. I use the color worksheet as a teacher copy and print copies of the black-and-white ones for students. Each review worksheet is labeled as “V1,” “V2,” and so forth at the end of the directions.
Art Vocabulary Game Versions
- 1 – Guess the vocabulary term that the question is referring to.
- 2 – Write their own, “What is…” question using whatever definition you prefer.
- 3 – Define the vocabulary word they selected.
- 4 – Write their own elements of art definition you give them.
- 5 – Draw a picture that best represents the vocabulary term and guess based on that image.
Teacher Directions
Students can work by themselves, in pairs, or at table groups to guess either the name of the element of art or its definition.

This is exactly what I was looking for for my 4th grade students in Art RTI enrichment. One suggestion I would have liked would be to use Bubble/Block letter style for the names of the Elements-but not have them colored in so the students can color the names of the Elements in how they want. -Deanna Watkins
