Echo Drawing Worksheets
My echo drawing worksheets will improve confidence amongst your elementary and middle school art students. They’re a great drawing warm-up activity before any big art project!
The benefit to this activity is that it trains the brain to carefully observe what it sees. By copying the drawing, your students will begin to see the relationship between the lines and shapes. And, with lots of practice, their drawing skills will improve.
I have used these echo drawing worksheets primarily with indelible materials like crayons, colored pencils, and thin markers. The reason for this is that I don’t want kids to be concerned about making mistakes. These should be used as simple drawing exercises. And not as a graded assignment. Also, it forces students to slow down their drawing and concentrate.
Art Teacher Worksheets
There are 6 printable worksheets for art class included. The first two pages of echo drawing exercises are for beginners. They’re just simple line and shape designs. These make great brain break and fast finishers for kids.
Then, there’s two intermediate and one advanced page. These worksheets are more involved. And because of this, you may consider only assigning one of these at the start of a lesson as a bellringer activity.
Lastly, I’ve also included a blank echo drawing worksheet. Use this to make your own version of an echo worksheet for your art classes.
Another idea is to let students fill it out over the course of several classes. Then, you can make copies of it, print it as a packet, and share it with all your art classes. The exciting part is that every student’s drawings will be unique. And, you’ll quickly have more echo drawings to share with other classes.
Student Directions
Train your brain! Get your hands and eyes to work together. This will help you notice small details and become a better observer. Don’t worry about copying the image exactly. The goal is to draw the same basic lines and shapes how you see them.
