Digital Ugly Sweater Art Project
No prep sub plans for elementary are easy with my engaging, digital art project to design a digital ugly sweater on Google Slides™. Students will practice technology skills with my ugly Christmas sweater template and step by step art lesson. Then, pick a writing prompt to draft a creative story about their ugly sweater craft.
Need fun, fast finisher activities for 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders? Digital art projects are paperless, take up no space, and don’t use art materials. Simply assign the sweater project using your LMS, and stop worrying about early finishers!
Digital Ugly Sweater Template
The Google Slides version of this Christmas activity includes tech tips and step by step directions with pictures for independent learning. And, kids can build an ugly sweater using either copy & paste or drag & drop.
How to Use My Ugly Christmas Sweater Template
First, your students will pick a background. Then, they’ll choose an ugly sweater style. From there, they’ll add patterns, a neckline, festive words, and cute Christmas or winter graphic like Rudolph, a snowman, or tree.
This digital art activity is a great for teaching space, overlapping, and contrast; some of the sweater graphics will look better overlapped over a color that has more contrast.
Note
For the kids that don’t celebrate Christmas, consider duplicating the file, renaming it something generic, and only include the snowman, snowflake, penguin, etc.

Students completed the ugly sweaters at home, via google classroom. We then used 4 square writing templates for the writing process to answer the question Ò What is the ugliest outfit you have ever worn?Ó. We just came back to our school building a month ago, so I hung their ugly sweaters in the hallway near their lockers, since we had not seen the students in person since the end of October.
